Meet Dachiya Atkinson, a 6-year-old b-girl prodigy, hailing all the way from England. Yes, you read that correctly: Dachiya is 6 years old and a b-girl. For all of you rhythmically-challenged readers out there, b-girling/boying (also known as break-dancing) is a style of street dance that started right here in New York City in the early 1970s. The dance is very physical and challenging (break being the operative term), which makes Dachiya and all of her swag even more mystifying.
Under her performing name, B-Girl Terra, Dachiya originally started out with her 8-year-old sister and fellow breaker, Eddie. Terra has taken home numerous awards for her breaking including the Best Dancer award at the recent Chelles Battle Pro competition in Paris, France. Eddie and Terra were added to the UK B-boy/girl dance group, Soul Mavericks, in 2012. This past May, Terra and Eddie showed off their talents in an appearance on The Ellen Show. The two siblings, who also do gymnastics, currently train three times a week for 3-4 hours each session.
They’re so cute I want to eat them (is that weird?)
The pint-sized performer looks like a beautiful rag doll as she throws her little legs around, doing headstands, handstands, and a lot of other moves that I didn’t know were humanly possible. Terra told the Express & Star that she likes dancing because it is “nice” and she doesn’t get nervous when she’s out on the stage. She’s blown up YouTube with some of her videos reaching almost 3 million views and has been featured on People.com, DailyMail, and various European news outlets.
She’s so freaking cute. And at 6 years old, she is a million times more talented than I will ever be at 22. Damnit.
Enjoy B-Girl Terra and her flyyy moves:
