After a fifteen-year break, Yuki C. Honda and Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto are returning with their first album since 1999’s hit Stereo Type A with LP Hotel Valentine. You might remember the awesome pair from BUST Magazine’s 20th Anniversary Extravaganza. Included on the album is the ecstatic and ineffable song “MFN,” with a video by Georgia. In addition to the super-ladies, album guests include Reggie Watts, Glenn Kotche, Mauro Refosco, and Nels Cline. The album is set to release this February!
The artists spoke to Pitchfork about their recent work, and it’s clear that their chemistry and sense innovation is totally fierce. Of the album, Honda explains, “We both realized we had unfinished business.” Hatori expresses her passion and aspirations for the work: “For me, making an album is like raising a child. We don’t know what kind of person (story) they will end up to be.” The pair is hesitant to explain their creative process, allowing viewers to draw their own meanings from the work. So far, it’s an elusive and magical adventure, and we can’t wait for more.
