I think it’s safe to say that Kristen Bell is awesome. She’s one of those celebrities I never mind hearing about, because she has opinions and isn’t afraid to share them. Whether it’s about her LOVE of sloths, her war against the “pedorazzi” with her husband, Parenthood star Dax Shepherd, the release of the long-awaited Veronica Mars movie (!!!), or, in this case, one of her tweets to the Republican National Committee.
Kristen Bell tweeted this a few days ago, and it caught the attention of Fox News (of course).
If you can’t sit through the whole video, the gist is that on Fox News’ Your World with Neil Cavuto, the host and commentator spewed a bunch of nonsense in the realm of, like, if Bell wanted to give more money to the government she could (umm duh, not really her point, guys!) and how she’s just tweeting for her own fame and publicity.
Kristen Bell is not trying to say “I HAVE SO MUCH MONEY LOOK AT ME!” Her point is that if you have the means, you should be able to afford higher taxes. Instead of critiquing Bell’s political opinion regarding taxes for the rich, they wrongfully, and rather unsuccessfully, assail her character.
Celebrities getting political is nothing new. What I particularly love about Bell’s tweet is that it sparked further conversation and debate on the matter. We can’t make active change if we don’t have people from all sides admitting their privilege.
Rock on, Kristen Bell.
Thanks to Hollywood Reporter, Fox, People.com, and Twitter.
