Facts! According to a new study detailed in the Atlantic, “mommy brain” is a real thing (which anyone who has ever grown an entire human being in their body already knows). The very real change comes from an increase in a mother’s flow of hormones, which are necessary to build the bond needed between a new mom and her baby.
These changes in brain activity are the reason that some not-especially child-crazy ladies are able to find motherhood rewarding. We suspect there is also a reason why we can get over the whole diaper/vomit/viscous-bio-fluids-leaking-on-your-shirt thing and spend hours talking to someone who just gurgles and farts back at you.
Turns out: Parenthood doesn’t just change a person’s way of thinking while they mop up snotty noses and pioneer the car pool lane: It changes a person forever—and it’s more than sentimental, it’s scientific. Find out more here.
