In the realm of iconic female characters, Miss Piggy reigns supreme. Introduced in 1974, at forty-one she has lasted far past the f**kable age usually given to female celebrities, and shows no signs of stopping. Her loud, charming, abrasive attitude combined hyper-femme style makes her an excellent recipient of the New York Museum Award.
According to AP, the Brooklyn Museum announced that the winner of feminist award would be Miss Piggy. She will join the ranks of real life feminist icons like Sandra Day O’Connor; considered “The Gloria Steinem of the Muppet World,” Madame Piggy will be interviewed at the June 4 ceremony by Steinem herself.
When told about her award Miss Piggy declared: “Moi, is thrilled.”
Kermy will also be attending.
Some may say that Miss Piggy is not worthy of the honor, but the reality is that while a fictional character, her impact on Pop Culture makes up for that. Throughout her long history she has managed to not be pigeonholed into one ideal of femininity. She has been the princess, the heroine, the villain and everything in between. Capable of holding her own and still being a dame, she has been given more room to be human than most actresses will ever get.
