Lin-Manuel Miranda is no longer starring in Hamilton, but he’s just as busy as ever. Miranda and his former co-star, Renee Elise Goldsberry, performed for Broadway’s biggest stars on Monday during the “Broadway for Hillary” fundraiser.
The duo rapped a parody of “The Ten Duel Commandments,” (Or was it technically “The World Was Wide Enough”?) in support of Clinton, and urging people to vote this November.
For fans of the show, the opening “One-two-three-four-five-six-seven-eight-nine/There are ten things you need to know,” was familiar enough, but the rest of the song was updated with verses like, “Hillary makes each decision/Looking at the world from a rarefied position/A public servant with tenacity, agility/Mi gente, experience is not a liability.”
Miranda got an especially loud response from the crowd when he sang, “I have only one overwhelming feeling/Anybody here wanna shatter a glass ceiling?”
The choice of song, a preparation for a duel, is definitely appropriate given this ruthless election year, and we hope Miranda and Goldsberry’s efforts will motivate Hillary to summon all the courage she requires for tonight’s third presidential debate.
