Searching for the perfect holiday gift for the girl who has everything? Well, look no further: Artist Orien O’ Neill has created a line of clit-themed jewelry that’s both elegant and anatomically correct!
Inspired by the internal clitoris, the Clitoring is hand-crafted in Bushwick, New York to be a fun conversation piece as well as a gorgeous accessory.
If its wishbone-like shape is unfamiliar to you, that’s because it wasn’t until 2009 that French researchers Dr. Odile Buisson and Dr. Pierre Foldès gave the medical world it’s first complete 3-D sonography of the stimulated clitoris, because who cared about female sexual pleasure until 7 years ago? Thanks a bunch patriarchy! The idea behind the Clitoring is to celebrate this mysterious organ and to illustrate its ‘miraculous structure’ to the unenlightened.
On his website, PenelopiJones.com, Orien describes the clit as “a thing we all know yet may know surprisingly little about”. Turns out he’s right —I considered myself a Clit Expert until I read the site’s intro —did you know the clitoris can increase in sensitivity and size seven times over a lifetime? Now you do!
As if we needed any more proof that this is the most amazing concept for a jewelry line ever, check out feminist queen Gloria Steinem rocking hers earlier this year!
Not only have they brought us this fab homage to the only organ that exists solely for pleasure, PenelopiJones has also got an awesome handcrafted Vagina Dentata ring designed by guest artist Emma Kaywin, which I didn’t know I needed until right now.
Clitorings start at $122 and come in silver, gold, and brass. You can check out Orien O’ Neill’s work at the 11th Annual BUST Holiday Craftacular, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th December at the Brooklyn EXPO Center, 72 Noble Street, Greenpoint from 11am-7pm.
