7 Unexpected Colors To Put On Your Lips This Spring

by Miriam Mosher

Spring is a time of change and renewal, so why not breath a little life into your staid winter lip routine?

Here are 7 ideas for a show-stopping pout:

1. Try Color Blocking

Think color blocking is just for clothes? Think again. Two-toned lips were all the rage at the Cushnie et Ochs’ Spring 2017 show. Try pairing a cool red like Mac’s Perfect Score with a hot pink such as Mac’s erroneously named Relentlessly Red.

2.Go For Baby Blue

By using a sweet pastel in an unexpected way it becomes edgy. Try a matte baby blue lipstick like NYX Lippies for a bold statement.

3. Or Try Canary Yellow

The same concept applies to all pastels. Pick a color that makes your heart sing and rock it like the goddess you are.

4. Think Ombre is Interesting? Try Monochromatic Ombre.

Pick a color any color and a complementary shade of the same color. Now blend them with the lighter color in the center of your lips. Shown here are MAC Show and Teal and Instant Icon. This swoon worthy, mermaid-inspired look is excellent, but it can be recreated in any color palette you desire!

6. Go For Gold

There is nothing more decadent than gold. Layer a gold matte lip, or coat it with gloss and leave the rest of your face bare for maximum impact.

7. Or Line Your Lips With it

It’s the worst when lipstick wears off, leaving only your lip liner. But why not line your lips and forgo the lipstick all together? Pick a stunning gold or other metallic and give it a go!
