Viva La Biba!

Beyond Biba Trailer from November Films on Vimeo.

I was super psyched to hear the news that a documentary has been made about my absolute all time fave 60’s-70’s design house, the influential and way ahead of it’s time, Biba. The movie, Beyond Biba, is premiering in the UK this weekend, and I really do hope it makes it over to our shores.

Biba was founded by Barbara Hulanicki and her husband in 1964, and quickly grew from a small mail order company to become huge part of the youthquake scene in London. Their ultra hip boutique was frequented by rock royalty, the Stones, Marianne Faithful, Brigitte Bardot, etc, and Hulaniki built it into a huge brand that included make up and textiles in addition to her signature print mini’s and maxi’s. There have been several coffee table books released about Biba, as well as an excellent autobiography, "From A to Biba" and BUST had the pleasure of running an interview with Barbara a few years back. I even received a telephone call from the legendary designer herself thanking me for the article- now that’s class!

Hulanicki is still desiging (she currently resides in Miami) and I recently was thinking of buying some of her beautiful wall paper, (I just have to figure out how to get it on the wall!) Anyway, I know I will enjoy this documentary, looks Bibarific!
