Yes, you read that right. Aelita Andre, the 4-year-old daughter of two Australia-based artists, has her own solo exhibit, The Prodigy of Color, at the Agora Gallery in Chelsea, NY until the 25th of June.
While the popular joke about abstract art may still be “my kid could have done that,” Andre’s success adds new meaning to the common trope. The artist sold paintings for as much as $24,000, and celebrated her second birthday during her first exhibit in Australia. Her genuine innocence and youthful joy emanate from each of her works, and the international art community has noticed.
With titles like “Unicorns and Dragonfly,” “Dinosaur Islands,” and “The Dog and the Alien,” and her use of objects like toy unicorns in her works, it’s impossible to forget that she’s just a kid. You can see the adorable little girl running around her exhibit in a tutu and shrieking with giggles as she ignores the reporter’s questions in this video from ABC News.
