I wonder if (and highly doubt) Apple realized the irony of censoring the word “vagina” out of the title of Naomi Wolf’s new book, Vagina: A New Biography.
The point of the book is to educate people about the vagina, and therefore about women – striving for a greater understanding and respect. And the title was clearly chosen at least in part to provoke and to de-stigmatize the perfectly harmless word that recently had Michigan legislators wringing their hands and giving each other cootie shots.
But, more importantly, the word is icky and it might offend some innocent iTunes shoppers, so Apple did the only reasonable thing and employed some stars to shelter the fragile eyes of its customers.
