Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a bipartisan coalition founded in 2006 by Michael Bloomberg, has spent the better part of the last five years demanded better gun control policies in the United States. Their call to regulate illegal arms has only grown stronger in light of the Aurora and Newton shootings, despite being boldly ignored during the 2012 election cycle.
Demand a Plan, a campaign of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, has just released a new video featuring Roxanna Green, whose nine-year-old daughter Christina was a victim of the Tucson shooting that also injured Representative Gabrielle Giffords. In the video, Green urges viewers to visit the Demand a Plan website and sign a petition to insist upon answers from Washington on the subject of gun control.
Giffords herself recently announced her plans to push for gun control legislation. After visiting Newton, Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly have said that they will reveal their own fundraising initiative in the name of stricter gun laws. With advocacy groups like Mayors Against Illegal Guns and individual citizens taking up the call, it surely can’t be long until Washington is forced to acknowledge and address the country’s broken gun laws (at least, we hope).
