Chrissy Amphlett, lead singer of the Divinyls, has passed away. She was diagnosed with both breast cancer and multiple sclerosis. She was 53. According to a statement released by her husband, she passed gently, in her sleep and was surrounded by her close friends and family.
She was best known for the 1991 hit single, “I Touch Myself.” The band released six albums before splitting in 1997. The band later re-formed in the early 2000s.
Amphlett was known as a vocal advocate for self-examinations, even relating the bands hit single back to self breast examinations and early detection. She remained positive and optimistic after her 2007 diagnosis of multiple sclerosis and even after her 2010 breast cancer diagnosis. Let’s remember this amazing singer and her outspoken strength and kickass outlook.
