More good news, marriage rights-wise. We all know that last week Iowa granted same-sex couples the right to marry. Now, Vermont has legalized gay marriage – the state legislature voted to override Governor Jim Douglas’; veto of the bill they had approved. Also, the District of Columbia is going to start recognizing gay marriages from other states as legal.
Hopefully more states will follow suit. But I’m cautious about my optimism on an issue this divisive. Even still, I’d like to look forward the opportunity to be invited to my old roommate’s wedding instead of his non-legal commitment ceremony. Whenever that happens.
