#CakeWithCashmerette: Sewing Bloggers Say F.U. to a Troll… With Cake

by Alexa Salvato

When sewing blogger Cashmerette posted a sketch of bathing suit plans for an upcoming project on Instagram, some troll decided the proper response was body shaming, telling her to “eat less cake.” She responded sassily, posting a lovely shot of herself in a dress she’d sewn and a comment about how her life was pretty awesome already, accompanied by the hashtag #CakeWithCashmerette, and wrote a great post about it on her blog.

Her fans and peers have flocked to the hashtag, posting selfies of themselves with cake and other delicious desserts as a quiet protest.

Cashmerette, aka Jenny Rushmore, told The Guardian that the community of sewing bloggers (but not the community’s invaders) tends to be super-supportive of bodies of all sizes.

“When you sew you learn that you can be stylish at any size, and that you don’t have to change your body to fit clothes, you simply have to make clothes that fit,” she said. “Sewing has changed my body image in profound ways, and I hope that more curvy women can have the same experience.”
