While Diablo Cody’s known for writing Juno, Jennifer’s Body and Young Adult, Paradise is her first feature film that she’s written and directed! The film stars Julianne Hough, in which she transitions from a “good girl” to “bad girl,” after surviving a plane crash. She starts to re-examine her life by challenging her religion, and even declares in her church that she might vote Democrat in the next election. Can someone say, scandalous?
In her way of “finding herself,” Hough’s character travels to Las Vegas, also known as the city of sin, where she meets and becomes friends with a bartender (played by Russell Brand), and a showgirl (played by Octavia Spencer). Also, a balding Ron Swanson, aka Nick Offerman, is Hough’s father, which makes me very giddy about this!
Down that shot, girl!
I’m excited for this film, mainly because I love Cody’s sarcastic writing, which is prominently featured in her previous projects, but I’m not too sure about Julianne Hough for this role. While she does look like the quintessential “girl next door,” I would have to see the film in order to really believe her performance. I saw her in Rock of Ages, which was interesting to say the least, but I haven’t seen her acting in Safe Haven. What do you guys think? Do you think Hough’s capable to pull of Cody’s quirky one-liners? Leave your comments, and check out the trailer below!
