If you’re not familiar with the name Pouty, then you may know some of singer Rachel Gagliardi’s past work. She was one half of the short-lived but beloved punk band Slutever and was later part of Upset—the supergroup featuring Hole’s Patty Schemel and Vivian Girls’ Ali Koehler. All of which is to say she’s got punk bona fides that she puts to good use on her debut solo album. Songs like “Denial Is a Heavy Drug” and “Kill a Feeling” offer a modern update on the bratty pop punk that thrived in the early aughts, while “TV on TV” plays with ’90s nostalgia over heavy guitars and crashing drums. If Forgot About Me had existed in 1995, it definitely would have been in the rotation at Empire Records.
