As I sat down to write this blog, JC Penney (yeah, the store) sent me a friend request on Facebook. Weird.
Anyway! I’m not sure what the weather is like where YOU are sitting and reading this right now, but it’s dark and drizzly here in NYC. I am keeping my spirits high by packing my suitcase for my flight to Austin tomorrow for SXSW, where I will be blogging from the trenches , and also by listening to the debut self-titled CD by Happy Birthday, which comes out on Sub Pop tomorrow. Happy Birthday sounds sort of like a plastic bucket filled with guitars rolling down a grass hill. They are surprising, at times painful, and loud in a really fun way. The band consists of Kyle Thomas (also known as King Tuff) Ruth Garbus (who’s sister, Merrill Garbus is the voice of Tune-Yards) and Chris Weisman.
If you are headed to SXSW yourself, make sure to catch Happy Birthday performing at a variety of different venues there. Check their Myspace for dates and times.
