Are you into costume masks, art auctions, great writers, and supporting programs that foster creativity among at-risk youth? You just might be able to get a taste of all these on Saturday, December 17th a H.O.W. Journal party: Capote’s Black and White Ball Revisited, “500 Friends 15,000 Enemies One Night.”
The event, where masks are “strongly encouraged,” is H.O.W.’s Issue 8 Launch party and features musical performances, live readings, and book signings from some of the Issue 8 authors. Additionally, there will be a silent art auction to support the start of a new program with Safe Space, which will offer a creative space for at-risk city youth in art, music, and filmmaking.
Raising money for local youth is not the only way this magazine stays stellar. H.O.W. stands for “Helping Orphans Worldwide,” and part of the magazine’s mission is to raise money and awareness for millions of orphaned children in places like Ethiopia and Tanzania. Not to mention that the publication itself is an excellent art and literary journal featuring both known and upcoming talent–a double whammy of creative production and community/global engagement.
Tickets for this event can be purchased online, and you can choose to pay/donate between $10 and $1000. That way, whatever level of support you can give, you can still join the party and sport your sweet mask.
