Australian multi-instrumentalist Lara Meyerratken, AKA El May, has fashioned her own brand of romantic, gorgeous retro indie-pop that can speak to your broken heart while simultaneously making you want to get up and dance. “Thrills” is no exception. Jam-packed with infectious synth beats, bouncy percussion, and simple piano chords, the track has Meyerratken urging an introverted lover to let loose and have fun. El May’s voice is powerful, but not in the way you might think. Her vocals are softly gorgeous, moving from whispery sensuousness to beautifully high-pitched harmonies.
Appropriately enough, the video for the single takes you on a slow-mo journey into a dimly-lit house party that dabbles in the occult. If “Thrills” is any indication of things to come, we’ll be seeing a lot more of El May soon. Peep the video below!
