We love a good female-fronted band. Throw in sassy fringe, wailing guitars, soulful riffs, and a trans-Atlantic backstory and you’ve got Queen Orlenes. Frontwoman Brooke X, American-born and London-based, teamed up with New Yorker Ian Wolff and Englishman Rob Walbourne to focus on making music they loved after Brooke’s difficult year of trying to break into the music industry. The result is a passionate and catchy collection of latenight tracks that build steadily and slowly, slowly burn.
With two of the coolest cities in the world represented, Queen Orlenes offers an international take on downtown chic. After a self-funded tour of the UK, Queen Orlenes has taken their act stateside, embarking on a string of New York shows starting this Wednesday, May 23 and going through June 6th.
Queen Orlenes are touring to promote their debut EP “Helicopters,” and they’re playing venues everywhere from the Upper East Side to deep Brooklyn. The four-track EP feels a bit like a hazy night spent at your favorite jazz club where the bartender knows your name, but you still somehow never know what to expect.
