“We are at our most courageous when we are willing to dive, head first, into that genuine intimacy.”
The idea of being naked and frolicking through the woods covered in only moss, bark, and body paint sounds beautiful in nature but terrifying in reality. Women are usually terrified of the idea of being caught on camera completely naked, models and playboy bunnies excluded. That’s why it’s so amazing to see 10 women of all shapes and sizes strip down and come together to spread the message of self-acceptance and love.
The Goddess Project brought together 10 women to live the forest fairy life: shedding layers of clothes and returning to nature. With only body paint and bits of moss and bark to cover them, the women allowed themselves to be photographed and filmed in their most natural state. The result is a series of beautiful pictures and an honestly moving short video about the experience.
“By removing comparisons, competition, and conditioning, the women were given a space to look inwards. What remains? Embrace individuality. What can be seen? The potential to overcome obstacles of negative self image with the support of other women.”
I can only imagine how cathartic it must feel to peel off the costume we put on every day and get back to the land we come from. You can watch the video, titled Shine, below. If you like what you see, you can donate to The Goddess Project’s full length documentary.
