Melodic punk pop-rock band Sheer Mag quietly dropped a new 7”, III. The EP acts as a follow up to their 2015 release II, which is equally entrancing. Badass vocalist Tina Halladay’s edgy voice and unapologetic swagger has us asking, When the hell will there be a full length album released? The Philadelphia-based band is blowing up, announcing an extensive tour that includes dates at major festivals like Coachella and Primavera Sound. Upon listening, it’s not hard to understand why. The bass works effortlessly to compliment epic guitar licks, which on their own could come off corny and contrived. Thematically, the music speaks to a place we’ve all been: a restless, fickle love affair that consumes you. Our hearts ache as Tina sings, “lately I’ve been feeling like I’m not good enough.” Her voice is angelic, sharp, and transcending. Paired with the music, her cry becomes a battle call. This is the type of music you listen to when you want to be inspired and empowered.
True to their DIY roots, their bandcamp acts as the platform for their music. Produced by Nancy Shirley, the music video for “Nobody’s Baby” makes you feel like you’re throwing back 40s in someone’s basement. Free streaming? Badass riffs that make you feel like you’re in the 70s? Grainy homemade style music videos? Sheer Mag wins a special place in our rebellious grunge teenage-self sized hearts.
