Twenty-six years ago, the CBS sitcom The Nanny, starring Fran Drescher in the titular role, made its way into our homes and our hearts. A ’90s-era Mary Poppins by way of Flushing, Queens, Drescher’s Fran Fine was the lady in red when everybody else was wearing neutrals. She brought sequins, feathers, and candy-colored ensembles to the khaki-hued lives of the Sheffield children along with her enthusiasm and razor-sharp wit. She had style! She had flair! And she has since achieved icon status, moving from our TV screens to our phones thanks to the IG account @whatfranwore. Curated by Nanny devotee Shan Brown, it’s a massive catalogue of Fran’s looks throughout the series, from Todd Oldham to Dolce & Gabbana. Scrolling through the feed is not only a delight for the eyes, but also a stimulating jaunt for any fashion history geek or ’90s nerd. Like a seasoned fashion editor, Brown provides a detailed account of each outfit including the designer, the collection it’s from, the episode it appeared in, and even whether the item can be purchased online. You, too, can have Fran’s rainbow Moschino ribbon top. Just be sure to wear it with attitude.
