In need of an out-of-this-world drawing inspiration? Are your friends too impatient to pose for your vision of a sexy American Gothic? Come to Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School and get ready to do some saucy sketches. Featured in BUST’s October/November ’08 issue, Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School was founded in 2005 by artists Molly Crabapple and A.V. Phibes. It’s currently run solely by Crabapple, a New York City-based illustrator whose inspirations include buxom babes and sassy Marie-Antoinette-haired ladies.
At Dr. Sketchy’s, you’ll find people of all artistic backgrounds – from students and first-timers to big time professionals like Ron English and Audrey Kawasaki – sketching from theatrical, themed set ups. Past sessions have included a burlesque Valentine’s Day with alt model Raquel Reed (above), and a recreation of cyberpunk comic Transmetropolitan featuring genderqueer porn star Jiz Lee.
