Indonesian sports apparel manufacturer, Salvo, just brought us back to the 1950s with some solid advice on how to properly wash clothing. The short answer? By re-establishing antiquated gender roles.
It’s a well known fact that misogyny leads to cleaner laundry, and now we have some direct instructions. Thanks to Salvo, men no longer have to struggle to understand complicated terms such as “tumble dry low” or “hand wash only,” and us women can finally put down our knitting needles, babies, makeup (and whatever else us ladies do) to make ourselves useful.
We can only assume any man who would wear this brand with pride wouldn’t have a woman to wash his incredibly insulting t-shirts, being that he is most likely a despicable person living in a hole somewhere… But we are offended none-the-less. Thankfully, so are others, and they’re tweeting with all the ferocity 140 characters will allow.
Salvo, sweethearts that they are, apologized from the bottom of their hearts, with all the sincerity they could muster:
“The message is simply, instead of washing it in the wrong way you might as well give it to a lady because they are more capable. There’s no intention to humiliate women. In contrast, (we want to tell men) to learn from women on how to take care of clothes because they pay attention to details. Not all men understand/know how to take care of their own clothes, women are more knowledgeable/experts on such matters. We apologize profusely for any misinterpretations.”
See, ladies? It’s simple—we just didn’t understand because we were too busy making our man a sandwich! This wasn’t the worst case of blatant casual sexism we’ve seen all week, it was a compliment! We aren’t being assigned to roles we have fought long to overcome, we are simply “more knowledgeable/experts”! We are so glad this was cleared up, because otherwise this would be almost as upsetting as the fact that to most of us, this kind of behavior is far from shocking.
