You might not know who Sister Rosemary is, or where she lives, or what she does to make this world a better place, but after watching the new SnagFilms film “Sewing Hope” her message and her story will touch your heart forever.
The film, which mixes first person narration from Forest Whitaker, edgy animation, and compelling stories of hope, uncovers the 25-year reign of terror that the infamous Lord’s Resistance Army thrust upon Northern Uganda. Innocent children were kidnapped and brainwashed into being soldiers for Joseph Kony and his army. Now, as the dust of the war settles, the courageous Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe strives to aid those who need it most: women and children. She leads a vocational school in Gulu, Uganda where she utilizes practical skills to restore dignity, independence and hope to the survivors of the brutal regime.
Director Derek Watson expertly captures the experience of the sister and the 2,000+ girls who have been enrolled at the school since 2002, learning to make their own clothes, grow their own crops, and gain other valuable skills that will allow them to become self-reliant and successful in this new era of, hopefully lasting, peace.
SnagFilms is the largest collection of socially conscious films and is honored to launch “Sewing Hope” so that many others can learn about this courageous woman and her quest to fulfill the hopes and dreams of the next generation of capable young girls. The film is now available to stream worldwide, so be sure to check it out!
